2022 National Workshop on Data Science Education

The Summer 2022 National Workshop on Data Science Education is being organized by UC Berkeley's Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society with support from Microsoft and the West Big Data Innovation Hub. Participants will learn about data science education and meet educators involved in shaping data science at the undergraduate level. The first two days will cover what UC Berkeley is doing in the space, including its open-source curriculum and data science major. The latter two days will focus on national and international perspectives and host panels led by a diverse group of data science educators.
The event will be presented in a hybrid format so that both in-person and remote participants may attend. The program will include:
- June 27-28 In person: Training on teaching Data 8 and overview of Berkeley Data Science, including 1) a bootcamp on teaching a Data 8-style fundamentals classes, as well as 2) office hours sessions with the Berkeley professors and student staff and Labs for Data 8, Data 100 and Data Science Modules.
- June 29-30 Hybrid: 1) Panels and discussions on a variety of topics of national and international interest, 2) including community building amongst data science educators, and 3) lightning talks from other institutions.
