Come learn about data science at Berkeley!
Cal Day, Berkeley's annual open house, is coming up on April 22, and for the first time, data science will be part of it! You're invited to join us explore the diverse, innovative, and welcoming world of data science at Berkeley.
Cohosted by the Data Science Education Program and the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS), the Cal Day events are an opportunity to meet and hear from Data Science students, faculty, alumni, and BIDS research fellows.
11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.: Data Science Career Pathways Panel
Some of today's fastest-growing career fields involve data science. Whether you're interested in science, business, technology or history, data science can help you explore, understand and analyze data, and make informed decisions. Hear from faculty, research fellows, undergrads and alumni about exciting career possibilities.
12:00–1:00 p.m.: Data Science for Everyone
Find out why Foundations of Data Science is such a popular course for students of all majors. Award-winning professors give a short demo of how data science is taught in this course, then discuss how it can be applied to exciting fields. BIDS research fellows Chris Holdgraf and Laura Nelson give five-minute "lightning talks" to showcase their research.
- Ani Adhikari, Teaching Professor, Statistics
- John DeNero, Assistant Teaching Professor, Computer Science
- Chris Holdgraf, Data Science Fellow, Berkeley Institute for Data Science
- Laura Nelson, Data Science Fellow, Berkeley Institute for Data Science
1:00-2:00 p.m.: Meet Berkeley Data Science Students and Faculty
Berkeley students and faculty will be available to answer your questions about data science courses, research opportunities, career paths, and more.
