Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is offering data science graduate students and advanced undergraduate students at UC Berkeley the opportunity to join the LLNL Data Science Summer Institute (DSSI).
The LLNL DSSI is a flexible internship program that runs for 12 weeks during the summer. The two Summer 2019 sessions will be held from May 20, 2019 - Aug. 9, 2019 and June 17, 2019 - Sept. 6, 2019. During these 12 weeks, students will be paired with mentors working in the Data Science fields. DSSI will cover 50% of the students' time, allowing the students to enhance their skills by attending short courses and seminars on topics relevant to data science, and gain hands-on experience through collaborative work on other data science problems relating to national importance. DSSI is open to both advanced undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in applied mathematics, computer science, computer vision, machine learning, statistics, or a similar field.
Apply online. Initial selections will be made Jan 7, 2019, so interested students should try to get their applications submitted prior to New Year for the best chance of being selected.
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is a first-class laboratory for science and technology, creating solutions to the toughest issues in national and global security. Successfully meeting these challenges requires game-changing new discoveries. Diverse teams of computer scientists, engineers, physicists, chemists, biologists and other researchers work together to achieve technical innovations and scientific breakthroughs, then transform those advances into solutions to national problems. Science and technology on a mission: to boldly apply groundbreaking science and technology (and supercomputers!) to make the world a safer place.
