Fernand Pajot will discuss the current work he is doing to improve the lives of the deaf and hard of hearing at Ava and his journey to become a data scientist focusing on social impact.

Fernand Pajot graduated from Ecole des Mines de Paris with an MScEng specializing in machine learning, software, and entrepreneurship. Programming since an early age, he learned about machine learning by participating in the Netflix prize right after high school. After graduating, he joined Change.org as a data scientist and later became the company's head of data science and engineering. Most recently, he joined Ava (www.ava.me) as the speech and systems lead to help empower the deaf and hard-of-hearing to participate in group conversations, such as meetings or family dinners.
