Benjamin Nachman receives 2021 Guido Altarelli Award

BIDS Research Affiliate Benjamin Nachman has been awarded the 2021 Guido Altarelli Award. Nachman is a Staff Scientist in the Physics Division at LBNL where he is the group leader of the cross-cutting Machine Learning for Fundamental Physics group. The award recognizes Nachman's research contributions "for precision measurements of observables sensitive to jet substructure and use of innovative machine learning techniques."

Nachman - 2021 Guido Altarelli Award - imageThe Guido Altarelli Award honours the memory of the late Guido Altarelli, one of the founders of quantum chromodynamics, an outstanding communicator of particle physics, and a mentor and strong supporter of young scientists. The award consists of a certificate and prize money, and is awarded to junior scientists for outstanding scientific contributions to the fields covered by the DIS Conference series. The 2021 Guido Altarelli Award was presented during the DIS 2021 conference (XXVIII International Workshop on Deep-Inelastic Scattering and Related Subjects), which was held on April 12-16, 2021, and presented remotely from Stony Brook, NY.
