BIDS' new Data Science Services and Consulting portal helps connect researchers and resources to address COVID-19

April 16, 2020

BIDS has launched a new COVID-19 Response: BIDS Data Science Services and Consulting portal to help match the needs of domain experts — including epidemiologists and clinicians — to volunteer data science experts from across the broader BIDS community.  Following up on BIDS' earlier invitation to convene researchers, volunteers and data science resources to address COVID-19, the new portal is an invitation to engage in a coordinated effort with the broader campus community.

The shortage of data science and data analysis expertise has taken on a new level of urgency in light of the current pandemic, and BIDS has recently been working actively with collaborators at UC Berkeley - including the School of Public Health and the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society - to help coordinate expertise and resources that address urgent research questions around the virus' development and transmission.

BIDS is able to provide support for tasks such as managing and visualizing data, communicating and publishing open source data analysis, and software development and tools that ensure efficiency and best-practices, including version control, documentation, testing and deployment.

By exploring the portal, users will find a comprehensive listing of data science expertise available at BIDS, as well as COVID-19-related projects currently under way. Researchers are also invited to fill out a BIDS COVID-19 Consultation Request to initiate the process.
