BIDS Senior Fellow and Statistics Professor Bin Yu has been chosen by the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) as the recipient of this year's prestigious Elizabeth L. Scott Award for her scientific contributions to statistical and machine learning methodology; her dedication and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the statistics field; and for her mentorship of women students.
The Scott Award recognizes individuals who exemplify the contributions of Elizabeth L. Scott’s lifelong efforts to further the careers of women in academia. The award is granted to an individual who has helped foster opportunities in statistics for women, and it is presented biennially (in even years) at the Joint Statistical Meetings. The 2018 COPSS Award Ceremony will take place at JSM2018 on August 1, 2018, in Vancouver, Canada.
