Verification Dilemmas in Law and the Promise of Zero-Knowledge Proofs

A paper written by BIDS Faculty Affiliate Rebecca Wexler and colleagues recently received an Honorable Mention from the Privacy Papers for Policymakers Award as one of the top eight privacy papers in 2022. The award is for "leading privacy scholarship that is relevant to policymakers in the U.S. Congress, at U.S. federal agencies, and among international data protection authorities."

rOpenSci Announces $400K CZI Award to Empower Historically Excluded Groups as Community Leaders in Scientific Open Source Projects

We are thrilled to have been awarded new funding as part of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Open Science program’s education and capacity building strategy. This $400K grant will support a new project to enable more members of historically excluded groups to participate in, benefit from, and become leaders in the R, research software engineering, and open source and open science communities.

Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society at Berkeley Moves Closer to Becoming a College

This fall, UC Berkeley’s Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society moved one step closer to becoming a college. The University of California’s Office of the President reviewed the division’s pre-proposal, clearing the way for CDSS to revise and seek review of a final proposal laying out its detailed vision and plan for the school. If that is approved, CDSS would be the first new college at Berkeley in more than 50 years.
