State Street, UC Berkeley and Stanford University Form Consortium for Data Analytics in Risk (CDAR)

The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) and State Street Global Exchange today announced a collaboration to establish the Consortium for Data Analytics in Risk (CDAR), a new research center focused on applying advanced data-science techniques to manage and mitigate economic and financial risk. The announcement comes as State Street opens GX Lab, its new presence in Silicon Valley focused on partnering with local talent, industry leaders, and academic institutions to create solutions for its clients in the fields of data science and risk management.

If you have been doing work related to data science (e.g., conducting a data-intensive project, running an open source meetup on campus, developing tools to enable reproducible science, etc.) and would like to showcase your efforts at the Data Science Faire, we are currently taking submissions for posters and demos.

A Weekend of Coding: BIDS Data Science Fellow Volunteers at Worldwide Girls Hackathon in Oakland

Over Presidents’ Day weekend, 15 girls from Oakland participated in the IGNITE International Girls Hackathon, “a 24-hour, multi-country coding event in which girl coders around the world collaborate to develop a website or application that addresses a specific challenge facing girls and young women.”[i]

BIDS data science fellows are postdoctoral scholars, graduate student researchers, or staff with excellent credentials in their fields as well as strong interests in advancing data-analysis approaches with a community of like-minded individuals from across campus.
