Microsoft Research has selected BIDS Data Science Fellow Váleri Vásquez as one of ten PhD fellows recognized for their innovative research and capacity for future leadership. Fellows are chosen following a highly competitive process open to candidates throughout North America, and they are awarded two years of tuition and fees in addition to being invited to present their dissertation research at a two day workshop hosted by Microsoft Research.

Rachel Slaybaugh to Lead Berkeley Lab’s Cyclotron Road

Berkeley Lab has named BIDS Research Affiliate Rachel Slaybaugh to lead Berkeley Lab’s Cyclotron Road Division. Until recently, Slaybaugh served as a program director at DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), whose mission is to advance high-potential and high-impact energy technologies. Over the last four years, she has also led programs supporting research in advanced nuclear fission reactors, agriculture technologies, and sensing and data analytics.
