UC Berkeley's Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society will host the Data Science in Undergraduate Economics Workshop on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM Pacific Time. Participants may register to attend this free workshop, which will be presented virtually via Zoom.
This virtual workshop on teaching Data Science with Economics will bring together academic and corporate leaders -- from institutions such as QuantEcon, Coursera, Goldman Sachs, Harvard, and UC Berkeley -- who are actively innovating the intersection of undergraduate data science and undergraduate economics education. Sessions will feature:
- Insights from economics instructors using data science techniques in their curriculum
- A curated repository of open course materials
- Jupyter notebook demonstrations from our speakers about their courses.
In the past few years, there has been an emergence of efforts to teach undergraduate economics using data science techniques. Using Jupyter notebooks as a curricular platform eneable the implementation of rich and interactive curriculum, and there has been a huge demand from undergraduate students to study at this intersection. The organizers look forward to creating a community in this emerging field and bringing to life a vision for data science education in undergraduate economics.
