Abstract: Compute demand for developing state-of-the-art applications in machine learning and artificial intelligence is increasing at a rapid clip. At the same time, we are hitting perceived limits to the hardware that will be necessary to keep up with this demand. I will discuss the role of hardware in machine learning applications in different domains from systems level and to microarchitecture. I will also present emerging technologies for AI compute such as silicon photonics and room temperature quantum materials.
