Open Source Program Office (OSPO)

About

The Berkeley Open Source Program Office (OSPO) is located within the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS) and serves as the central hub for coordinating, facilitating, and supporting open source initiatives at UC Berkeley, primarily within the university’s research community. Jarrod Millman is the executive director, as well as a Senior Open Source Scientific Python Developer at BIDS. Under his direction, the OSPO aims to facilitate knowledge sharing, promote best practices, and provide support for open-source projects at every stage of their lifecycle.

Upcoming 2026-27

  • OSPO Network monthly meetup (online): First Thursday of every month at 10am Pacific, starting July 2, 2026
    • A monthly gathering for the UC open source community. Each meetup is co-hosted by a different campus in the network, with the hosting campus setting the agenda for the first half (demos, workshops, guest speakers, whatever they want to share), and the second half an open community call for network updates, project sharing, and Q&A.
