BIDS Faculty Council Member

Real name:
Linda Haverty Rugg

Linda Haverty Rugg has been a faculty member (since 1999) in UC Berkeley’s Scandinavian Department, where she has taught Scandinavian literature, film, and cultural history. Her research has focused on autobiography: self-representation in text and in visual media. Most recently she has delved into a study of Swedes in Colonial North America and their relations with Native Americans. She has also served as Associate Dean of Arts and Humanities, and currently works full-time in administration as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. As AVCR, she became acquainted with BIDS and its multidisciplinary approach to data science and realized that great links could be set up with the Arts and Humanities.
