Stephanie Veazie is an Epidemiology PhD student at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health. Her general research interests are understanding how social determinants of health drive disparities in maternal, child and adolescent health as well as mental health. She is currently researching trends in the proportion of adolescents who experienced adverse life events such as parental job loss and death of a family member before vs. after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and whether rates varied by racial/ethnic group and socioeconomic status. She also plans to examine how social adversity experienced at the neighborhood level impacts adolescent mental health. Prior to starting her PhD, Stephanie worked for a program that aimed to reduce disproportionately high rates of infant mortality among Black communities in Madison WI, and conducted systematic reviews on mental health topics at the VA Healthcare System in Portland OR. Stephanie holds a BS in Psychology and English from the University of Illinois and a MPH from the University of Wisconsin.
