SciPy is an open-source scientific computing library for the Python programming language. Since its initial release in 2001, SciPy has become a de facto standard for leveraging scientific algorithms in Python, with over 600 unique code contributors, thousands of dependent packages, over 100,000 dependent repositories and millions of downloads per year. It is widely used by researchers across academia and industry, and has been used in the production of some major scientific results such as the LIGO gravitational wave detection, and the recent imaging of a black hole by the Event Horizon Telescope.
BIDS is home to several SciPy core developers including BIDS Senior Research Data Scientist Stéfan van der Walt and BIDS Alum (former Data Science Fellow) Jarrod Millman.
