Marisa Tsai

Berkeley Computational Social Science Fellow
Epidemiology, Public Health, UC Berkeley

Marisa Tsai is a PhD student in Epidemiology at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the effects of early life nutrition and the role of federal nutrition assistance programs in reducing health disparities, increasing food security, and improving dietary intake. Prior to starting her PhD, she worked on studies evaluating policy changes in school meals, healthy retail policies, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Marisa holds an MS and MPH in Food and Nutrition Policy and Programs from the Friedman School of Nutrition...

Ciera C. Martinez

Data Science for the Environment Lead

Ciera Martinez focuses on data intensive research projects that aim to understand how life on this planet evolves in reaction to the environment and climate – especially projects involving large and complex datasets. A long-time open science advocate, Ciera has been involved with and continues to be interested in working on training for open data, education, publishing, and software, including developing community standards for data management practices.

Laurel Larsen

BIDS Faculty Affiliate
Geography, Civil and Environmental Engineering, UC Berkeley
Associate Professor, Geography, Civil and Environmental Engineering, UC Berkeley

Laurel Larsen's research uses a variety of tools to identify the feedback processes driving environmental systems at the landscape scale. These tools include field and laboratory work, simulation modeling, and data-driven analysis using increasingly available environmental data from sensor networks and remote sensing platforms. Much of this work focuses on how water interacts with physical (e.g., sediment) and biological (e.g., plants) components of the environment, often in nonlinear ways that lead to...
