The award is open to doctoral students who have demonstrated strong potential for university teaching and research, leadership and academic service; with backgrounds, life experiences, and/or research interests that contribute to diversity.

Meeting the Modern Naturalists at the Digital Data in Biodiversity Conference

On June 3-6, 2018, I attended the Second Annual Digital Data in Biodiversity Research Conference, which brought together a complex culture of individuals who share a common mission of providing natural history data to the world. The attendees ranged from collection managers, curators, IT specialists, academic researchers, to funders. These 'modern naturalists' are obsessed with data and arming themselves to use this data to fight for our planet.

The Berkeley Institute of Data Science (BIDS) invites letters of intent to pursue interdisciplinary research projects based at BIDS.  BIDS is seeking to facilitate interdisciplinary research efforts and to expand our increasingly active data science community at UC Berkeley, about which Chancellor Christ recently updated the campus.
