As a Scientific Software Developer (NumPy) at BIDS in 2018-2019, Tyler was on sabbatical as a staff scientist / principal investigator at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Theoretical Division 6. He is a computational virologist by training, having completed a PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University (Canada), followed by seven years of post-doctoral scientific work at the University of Oxford and LANL.
Tyler's scientific work in biochemistry lead to a number of open source contributions, especially related to the field of computational geometry and Voronoi diagrams. Tyler is a core developer and member of the steering committee for both SciPy and MDAnalysis open source Python libraries.
Tyler aims to balance a career as a research scientist with passionate contribution to open source projects, and bring the best of both worlds to support the mission of LANL.
